FAQs about the Lechweg

Do I need to book accommodation in advance or can I spontaneously find one?

Basically, you are on the safe side if you pre-book your accommodation. The local tourist offices are happy to help with the search. Especially in July and August it is high season in all places at along the Lechweg. If it is important to you that your accommodation has certain standard amenities and is close to or directly on the route, we recommend booking in advance.

Can the complete Lechweg be hiked in May?

The Lechweg is only walkable in it´s entire length from the end of June to the beginning of October. Before that you can expect to cross remaining snow patches on the stages Formarinsee to Warth. In addition, the accomodations in Lech and Warth only open at the start of the season. The public bus, which takes you to the Formarinsee, also begins its runs at the end of June. We recommend the shortened version from Steeg to Fuessen in May and starting from October.

Is it possible to walk the Lechweg in the opposite direction from Fuessen to Lech?

The trail marking and signage is in accordance with the guidelines of the European Ramblers Association throughout and in both directions. So if you prefer to go sportingly uphill and into the Alps, you can walk the Lechweg from the falls to the source.
