The Lechweg starts at 1,793 meters above sea level. The entire trail can only be walked between the end of June and the beginning of October. Whoever wants to begin sooner may choose the shortened variant from Steeg to Fuessen. Here the hiking season begins in May.

 

It is also suggested to keep Austrian holidays in mind, for example grocery access, shop closings. 2013 holidays: 1. April, 1./9./20./30. May, 15. August, 26. October and 1. November.

    In order to search for, and find the perfect hiking boot which can provide pain-free walking on long-distance trails like the Lechweg, one needs some know-how.

    Do not start any leg if thunderstorms or a storm has been forecast. There are shelter areas along the trail if it rains.

    Also if poor weather sets in, the trail segments can be shortened by taking the public transportation.

      Hiking clothes should be suited to the season. it is important that it fits well, yet offers a good amount of range of motion.

      A backpack for walking normally encompasses a packing volume of 20-30 liters, which carries enough for a one to two day tour.

      Rambling is not a sprint! Do not begin the legs too fast. Sweating is OK, but do not get out of breath. If you are able to hold a conversation comfortably while walking, then you have found an appropriate pace.
